Medical Disclaimer

Effective September 28, 2026 · Last updated September 28, 2026

1. Educational Information Only

BirthX, operated by Alexis Commodore, shares information to help families understand their options during pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period. Everything we provide, including blog articles, downloadable summaries, emails, social media posts, and messages from BirthBot (together, our “Content”), is general educational information only.

Our Content is not medical, nursing, mental health, or legal advice. It is not meant to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any condition, and it cannot take into account your personal health history, your pregnancy, or your baby’s needs.

2. No Provider–Patient Relationship

Reading our Content, emailing us, or using BirthBot does not make you a patient of BirthX or of anyone who writes for us, even if that person is a licensed health professional. Nothing we share replaces the relationship between you and your own care team.

3. Talk With Your Care Provider

Always ask your doctor, midwife, or other qualified health professional about your own situation before making decisions about your care, including decisions about tests, medications, procedures, where to give birth, or feeding your baby. Never ignore professional medical advice, or delay seeking it, because of something you read or received from BirthX.

Our Content is meant to help you prepare questions and have better conversations with your care team, not to take their place.

4. Emergencies

BirthX and BirthBot cannot respond to emergencies and we do not monitor messages in real time. If you think you or your baby may be having a medical emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department right away. Learn the urgent warning signs during and after pregnancy.

If you are struggling emotionally during or after pregnancy, you can call or text the National Maternal Mental Health Hotline at 1-833-852-6262. If you are thinking about harming yourself, call or text 988 to reach the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.

5. About BirthBot and AI

BirthBot is a text-message education chatbot. BirthBot’s answers to questions are generated with the help of artificial intelligence (AI). AI can make mistakes, leave out important details, or give information that is out of date or does not fit your situation.

Please treat BirthBot’s messages as a starting point for conversations with your care provider, not as instructions. Do not use BirthBot to report symptoms you are worried about; contact your care provider or call 911 instead. BirthBot is for people 18 and older.

6. Downloadable Summaries

The one-page PDF summaries on our site are shortened versions of our articles. They leave out details and context that may matter for you. They are for personal reference and are not a care plan or a substitute for talking with your provider.

7. Readers Under 18

BirthX is intended for people 18 and older, but our educational articles are appropriate for readers as young as 13. If you are under 18, we encourage you to talk about what you read with a parent, guardian, or other trusted adult, and with a health professional such as a doctor, nurse, or school nurse.

8. Accuracy and Updates

We work to base our Content on current, reputable evidence and public health guidance. However, medical knowledge and guidelines change, and practices vary between care providers, hospitals, and regions. We cannot guarantee that all Content is complete, accurate, or up to date, and we may change or remove Content at any time without notice.

9. Personal Stories and Opinions

Birth stories, experiences, and opinions shared on BirthX reflect one person’s experience or point of view. They are not recommendations, and your experience may be different.

10. No Endorsements

Mentioning a provider, hospital, birth center, organization, product, test, or treatment is for information only and does not mean we recommend or endorse it, unless we clearly say so.

11. Links to Other Websites

We link to other organizations and resources for your convenience. We do not control those websites and are not responsible for their content, accuracy, availability, or privacy practices.

12. Your Responsibility

You are responsible for how you use our Content and for the decisions you make about your health and your family’s health. You use our Content at your own risk.

13. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, BirthX, Alexis Commodore, and anyone who writes for or works with BirthX are not responsible for any loss, injury, illness, or damage that results from using or relying on our Content, including information from BirthBot. Our Terms of Use explain our warranty disclaimers and limits of liability in more detail.

14. Changes to This Disclaimer
